After years of left-leaning and permissive governments, right-wing parties are on the upswing in Europe, especially on the subject of immigration. Over the last decade, Europe, especially Southern Europe has been on the leading edge of multiple immigration crises coming out of Syria and Northern Africa. The result has been an influx of immigrants who are primarily Muslim and often male into the continent. This has had wide-ranging effects. Pile on the fact that the Ukraine war has brought the security status of the entire continent into question and the political situation is becoming dynamic.

I’m not surprised. I had heard this sort of thing from some online contacts. Welfare states are too permissive and too expensive is the chief complaint but the immigration problem also comes up from time to time. While younger people in the US are turning left-ward, their European cousins are going in the opposite. Recent elections bear this out in France and Italy but in this video we explore why this is and what it might mean for politics across the continent.
