One of the biggest problems with nuclear power is waste. It piles up rather quickly. When the fuel in a reactor is no longer viable for creating power, it has to go somewhere. The only problem is that it is still highly radioactive and it will continue to be radioactive for millennia. What do you do with something that’s poisonous for 11,000 years? You can bury it underground but you don’t want to put it just anywhere. Finland has created a system that stores it safely underground and can be sealed forever. Nuclear power can be an important part of reducing carbon emissions but dealing with the waste is a constant problem.

In this video, we learn how they are building new plants and creating solutions for dealing with the waste.
