Cleanliness is Next to Profitability

If there’s something that I can’t stand in my office is too much dirt and grime. Sometimes it piles up because I don’t have a cleaner, but it’s still important to keep things clean. When I owned a retail store I mopped my floors every night and dusted twice weekly. Cleaning your equipment is an important business maintenance task that shouldn’t be overlooked. Below are some of the major benefits of keeping your equipment clean.  The point is this: keeping your office or your business clean is important. Here are some helpful tips to get started.

Stop people getting sick

The most obvious reason to keep equipment clean is to stop people from getting ill. If you work in food production or catering, cleaning could be essential for preventing food contamination – the last thing you want is your customers to get sick. However, it’s not just food equipment that needs to be regularly cleaned, but all equipment. A dirty office keyboard that is accessed by many people could lead to cold and flus being passed around the office to all your staff. If you’re using distilled water to clean things or keep equipment going there are many brands to choose from so you’ll want to find out where to buy Golyath distilled water or other brands and keep those on hand at all times. Certain other equipment such as hard hats could even cause scalp infections if worn regularly without cleaning.

Keep equipment working properly

In many cases, cleaning can also be necessary for keeping equipment working properly. With many forms of industrial machinery, dirt can get into moving parts or form rust if not cleaned away. Computers that are exposed to too much dust can meanwhile overheat leading to hard drive failure. Keep your equipment working longer and more efficiently by adopting a cleaning schedule. Some equipment may need professional cleaning to keep it working properly such as HVAC and lab equipment.

Prevent a fire breaking out

Some equipment can even become a fire risk if not regularly cleaned. For example, the oven hood in a restaurant kitchen could collect deposits of grease and food that could become a fire hazard – you may need to hire restaurant hood cleaning services to clean this. Many other types of business equipment such as vent ducts and heating equipment can similarly become a fire hazard if dust and lint is cleaned out. You should also be careful of clutter build-ups on equipment that produces a lot of heat.

Keep your business presentable to customers

Keeping your equipment clean will also help you to project a better brand image to customers. For example, turning up to a plumbing quote with a dirty van and a dirty toolbox won’t inspire much confidence – if you don’t have respect for your equipment, customers may wonder if you have respect for your work. In other environments like a coffee bar, customers may be put off ordering a coffee if equipment like a coffee machine is dirty. Make sure that any equipment that is visible to customers is kept clean to prevent you losing business.

Encourage pride in your business

Clean equipment can also inspire pride in your business and pride in your work. It can inspire you to care more about the details and to go the extra mile with every project. Studies show that a clean workplace can also boost employee morale and productivity. This could lead to a lower employee turnover and a happier environment. While cleaning can be a chore, you and your employees will ultimately feel better afterwards handling equipment that is clean and you could see a noticeable increase in productivity.
