They Liked Segregated Schools

When I saw the title of this video I never clicked so fast in my life. I wanted to see what kind of idiotic racism youtube was up to this time. I was shocked when I found this video of black people talking about how they preferred their segregated schools and their black teachers. Once I sat for a moment and had a think about it, I realized that I had heard something like this before. Malcolm Gladwell had done an episode about segregated schools and one of the things that he pointed out, and I had never thought about, was that after integration of schools following Brown v. Topeka Board of Education, most school districts fired all their black teachers. White parents would not allow black teachers to teach their children and since all the black children were being integrated into neighborhood schools, there simply was nowhere for these black teachers to work and most of them left the profession. In this video, real people talk about what it was like in segregated schools and why they preferred it. I’m not saying that we shouldn’t have integrated schools but this is an interesting perspective.
