The Metaverse is Coming and You Should be Scared

Facebook has rebranded itself to Meta in preparation for its launch into the metaverse. The metaverse is a sort of virtual reality environment that is similar to actual reality just digital. Given Facebook’s privacy issues and their ability to undermine democracy, cause genocide, and other political implications, a virtual reality environment where people are spending significant amounts of time will cause some problems. Facebook is probably the worst company to be heading up this kind of effort. It is also good to mention that the metaverse is a poor facsimile of the actual reality that no one asked anyone to create.
