Investors make the small business world go round. After all, it’s hard to get crowdfunded, and who knows if the bank is going to lend you all the money you need! So you need to impress an investor to get some backing for your business projects, but you’re afraid of just how hard that might be. And that’s why this post is here; impressing an investor of any kind comes with some caveats, but if you put your best foot forward, you’ve got a strong chance of getting the result you want.
Bring Your Own Personality to the Meeting
If you’re acting like yourself in an investor meeting, you’re going to come across as much more genuine. And that means you’ve got a much better chance of impressing. An investor wants to meet and learn about the person they’re going to be working with; that’s hard to do if you’re putting on an act.
Doing so might even set their teeth on edge and cause them to pull out immediately. This is the last thing you want to happen, so even if you’re nervous, be yourself and let your true personality shine through.
Focus On Your Own Business Dreams
You’ve probably already got a business strategy in place, and now’s the time to share that openly and honestly. And above all else, focus on what you want to achieve, rather than anyone else in the sector you might be up against. To get the balance right, you don’t need to talk about the market in too much detail, as they’re likely to already know about it. However, you do need to showcase your own knowledge of your position within it.
Let Them See Your Product
You don’t just have to bring notes and a numbers presentation to the meeting. You can also 3D print a prototype of your product using a service like GSC, then present it to the investor and let it do all the talking itself! Then, you can run them through the fine points and all the details as they physically look over the item they’re going to be investing in. What could be more impressive? You’re clearly a very prepared business owner who loves to think ahead!
Be Serious About the Details
You need to bring a presentation with some realistic facts, numbers, and figures on it. Similarly, you need to present these in a serious tone, even if your brand has a joke-y or playful edge to it.
Give it to your potential investor straight and let them see where you are right now; they need to know what they’re getting into right down to the last minute detail, even if that’s a scary thing to have to own up to. A good business idea will shine through, no matter how low the profit is – let them see it and decide for themselves on an open basis.
An investor could take your company to the next level. Impress them like this.
