Are you unhappy with how society is changing in America? Would you like to go back to a better time when things were simpler? Great! Blame cultural marxism! Or…at least that is what the right wing would like you to believe about what is going on society. If you listen to right-wing people for any length of time, you’ll be convinced that the entire democratic party is wringing their hands in greed in a smoky hotel room somewhere planning to destroy America. However, anyone who is a democrat knows what we simply are not that organized. Back in the 1950s, the paranoia of communism coming to America was so pervasive that they changed how Hollywood films were made (Hays code) added “Under God” to the pledge of allegiance (1959). When the grand communist conspiracy never quite materialized, the focus shifted to all the uncomfortable (for some) cultural changes that were taking place.
