In this handy video, we’re going to learn about how apartment towers are actually a good thing. The apartment tower has some negative connotations in the West. They are often associated with drab, socialist housing from the soviet union or uninspiring poverty-stricken projects like Cabrini Green or Pruitt-Igoe. However, in much of the developed world, the apartment block is ubiquitous and is often a common form of housing. In America, we resist them in favor of single family homes. In this video, we learn about why apartment blocks are a good thing and our cities would benefit by building them and lots of them. As the title states, I’m not really a fan of this new urbanism that seems to be anti-car, anti-stuff, and anti-everything but I’m very much in favor of apartment blocks as a way to build a great deal of housing, quickly, and inexpensively.
