Trae Crowder is back to tell us about how we need to be honest with coal country and start to find some solutions to the economic devastation left behind as the coal mines have closed. Let’s face it: coal isn’t coming back. The jobs were well-paying but dangerous and on that metric, they weren’t that great. Either way, the world is moving on from coal (slowly) and trying to offer people who are waiting for coal jobs to come back, false hope is simply disingenuous. Britain went through a similar transition in the 1980s when many colliery were closed throughout the country. Those regions often never recovered because successive governments never offered any relief. The same problem is reaching our shores now and instead of offering false promises if a come-back, it is time to help people move on.
