Governments all across the world, especially those that are short on institutions and expertise, often hire in consultants, specifically management consultants, to come in and manage their countries. These consultants are not elected and most people don’t even know who they are and couldn’t point them out in the street. However, these consultants have an outsized effect on the lives of billions of people in dozens of countries all around the world. The consultants often do what is best for the interest of government officials and big business but not to the advantage of regular people.
