There are many problems with the modern healthcare system. Politicians have been trying to fix healthcare since the 19th century and modern attempts have been included everything from the modern HMO model to universal care. Most of the discussion about healthcare have to do with patients and delivery methods. Costs have risen dramatically in the recent past and that is often a focus. One group that is often left out of the conversation are doctors and nurses, those people who actually provide medical care. The current medical system doesn’t work very well for providers either and that story is often left out of most discussions on healthcare. Those on the inside of the system cheered when Marianne Williamson and Tulsi Gabbard talked about how the current medical system has often put doctors in the position of being vendors for the pharmaceutical companies rather than offering the type of care that would serve patients.
In this clip, Dr. Zubin Demania who runs the popular medical satire channel ZDoggMD is highlighting the challenges that providers face within the healthcare system and all the rules, restrictions, and business concerns that dominate the medical field. Providing care in a system where medicine is a business rather than focused on care means worse outcomes for patients and burned out providers. I really like ZDogg because he is focused on providing good care and creating a health system that actually keeps people well and solves their problems rather than just burning through money.
In the political discussions around healthcare, it is important to remember that medical providers are just as much a part of the conversation as patients and the associated costs. If you want to learn more please make sure to check out his channel.
