In this helpful video from Peter Zeihan, we get some insight to the new FEDNOW money transfer program. Similar to efforts in the EU, this system would make currency more digital, and it would make transaction times much faster both within the US and around the world. Using this system, transactions can take place anywhere, and it would happen in near real-time thanks to digital tracking. This is far faster than bitcoin, ethereum or the other cryptocurrencies and uses establishing banks, banking systems, and national currencies that people already have and have recognized value.

Given this system, major privacy concerns have been raised. If all transactions are going through the FEDNOW system, does that mean the Federal Reserve, and by extension, the Federal government have the ability to track every single transaction that happens between anyone that uses US dollars? Zeihan says no but privacy advocates aren’t so convinced. This is just the beginning of this program. There will be more reporting to follow.
