Learning to look after your overall health and well-being should be top of the priority list but for so many of us in this day and age, the priority seems to be more about money. How we perceive and manage money varies widely, and we have to remember that money is not just about how much you have and therefore it equates to a certain level of happiness, but it’s also how you think about money. This is why sometimes we need to have an understanding of what our money mindset is, and this can open up a lot with regards to our relationships with our finances. So let’s show you each type, and maybe you will recognize one.
The Confident Money Manager
A Jackpot.com survey shows people are very confident in their money management skills and the confident money manager will believe in their ability to navigate financial decisions effectively. These are people who may actively engage in financial planning, invest, and make crucially informed choices about their money. This type of mindset usually stems from experience and financial literacy. These are the types of people who look at being informed about economic trends and personal finance strategies. If you feel like you want to be this type of person, it’s time to start educating yourself.
The Lifestyle Mindset
Some individuals prioritize experiences over money. These are people who are willing to spend money on activities, leisure, and travel even if it means deviating from conventional financial structures. These types of people tend to focus on the presence and value experiences over material possessions. It is important to understand that if you are like this, then prioritizing experiences is certainly going to benefit the mind, body, and soul, but if you’re looking to ensure long-term financial health, you’ve got to get the balance right somewhere. Because these are typically people who may have spent a long time traveling, there can be a very detrimental cycle of getting into debt, paying it off, and then spending all of it again. We should prioritize experiences, but only within our budget.
The Abundance Mindset
Those who have an abundance mindset view money as a limitless resource. There are people who believe that money has the potential for financial growth. Therefore, these types of people are open to opportunities that can enhance their wealth in so many different ways. While this type of mindset can encourage strategic investments and philanthropy, there is the potential to be unrealistic. As nice as it is to have a positive mindset, it’s only realistic to have this type of mindset if the individual has a wealth of resources in which to gain extra finances. These could be the types of people who end up setting up side hustles.
The Scarcity and Frugal Mindsets
Two sides of the same coin; scarcity is characterized by the fear of not having enough, which can result in a lot of anxiety. On the other hand, the frugal mindset is about spending intentionally and consciously every single time with careful budgeting and avoiding unnecessary expenses. Both types of mindsets can be detrimental to someone’s well-being in the long run.
Understanding the various money mindsets can give you an insight into how you perceive and interact with your money now, but also how you’d benefit from changing your approach.
