Voters are Trapped

For those of us old enough to remember “Politically Incorrect” from the 90s, Bill Maher has been a beacon of hope for the Left and Liberalism. However, the age of Trump has broken the man and its not been a pretty break either. Over the past 3 years, Bill has complained about the Democrats as much as he has complained about the Republicans and his interviews have all had the same theme: how are Democrats planning to get Republican voters back?

The idea is a false dichotomy from the start. He presumes that the only way to win in Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania is to be more like the Republicans or nominate someone so milquetoast and moderate that anyone can vote for them. That’s just not the answer. Bill Maher advocates for the democrats to leave issues affecting minorities and immigrants behind in favor of making scared white people in the midwest feel better. That’s not what America needs and that’s not the modern face of the Democrat party or the country.

He complains about people on twitter and all the things those folks complain about and how utterly irrelevant their problems are in the real world while not realizing that the reason people are complaining is that for many people issues around race and gender are real problems in the real world. It’s long past time for Democrats to be Democrats and just Republican-lite or Republicans but cool.

In this video, Bill makes an interesting case. His idea is two-fold, one that democrats are crazy but that their crazy is a sane alternative to the Trump-led GOP and that stuck between 2 choices, voters just simply have to choose the less crazy of the 2 parties. But this video also exposes the way Bill Maher has structured the political landscape.
