Updates

Hello everyone! It has been another week, hasn’t it? I hope you’re all enjoying the new content in my Millennials collection! The series will be completed this week, and I hope that you’ve all learned something along the way. Pre-orders for America’s Lost Generation are still open so feel free to stop in an grab a copy in advance. The book will be going on sale September 12th and will be available everywhere!

This week was a long one for me. We’re working on some exciting things at SOOPmedia and that has left me little time to do much else. I’ve been recording many new podcast shows as well! I think I have 11 sitting and waiting to be edited, along with several other videos. I will need to merge my consciousness with Adobe Premiere here soon.

Before we jump into the headlines I thought I’d mention a story that has been brewing. An interesting story that isn’t getting much press is the current investigations into Letitia James and Adam Schiff about mortgage fraud that are currently underway. Also, Letitia James’ office is being investigated for their actions during Trump’s business fraud trial, which resulted in him being fined majorly. This should be no surprise to anyone.

Trump promised he would go after the people who shamed him in public, and he has done that using the legal system. It is the same strategy they are currently pursuing with the Epstein situation. They can’t release the files (too many national security risks), so hauling in every FBI official and prominent democrats (no republicans, of course) from the past two administrations is the solution. The MAGA argument held that Trump was a victim of “lawfare” and that the legal system was used against him to keep him out of power. I would argue this is much closer to actual law-fare than anything that happened to Trump. No one he is going after threatens him politically—they just annoyed him.

America’s Lost Generation

My next book will be out soon, and I’m taking new pre-orders now. America’s Lost Generation catalogs the story of Millennials and what went wrong for America’s largest and most educated generation. They did everything right, and they have been net losers in today’s America. So what happened? I discuss that and more in my new book.

Trump’s New Peace Deal for Azerbaijan and Armenia (Ukraine Preview)

As if Tehran and Washington had enough issues, Iran is unhappy about the new Azerbaijan/Armenia peace deal. They want to block the proposed trade corridor between the two countries to encourage closer integration of the new countries who attacked each other earlier this summer. Trump had a flashy signing at the White House today (Saturday) with both leaders to celebrate the new idea.

Of course, made sure that the oil and gas contracts are managed by US companies as part of the trade deal with the US supplying them with new oil extraction technology. Weirdly, this sends a bigger signal to Moscow that the US is free to create deals for itself within Russia’s sphere of influence. The latest move should certainly make the current Ukraine negotiations interesting.

Speaking of those negotiations, the latest rumor circulating in all the right circles is that the Trump administration is trying to forge a deal between Moscow and Kiev and that Russia will keep all the Russian speaking portions of Ukraine in the east, especially the Donetsk region. These rumors are flying around as Putin and Trump are scheduled to meet in Alaska next week to discuss a ceasefire in Ukraine.

More Tariffs

This week, President Trump announced 39% tariffs against Switzerland. This caused some stirring in Geneva who subsequently canceled their F-35 order which Trump said was, “unfair.” The MAGA narrative holds that this is to force Switzerland to the negotiating table but so far that has not gone according to plan. The Swiss have not hurried over to the negotiating table nor are they reconsidering membership in the EU to avoid the tariffs and get in on the deal the EU just cut with the Trump administration.

India also felt the ire of Trump’s tariff regime this week with a tariff raise putting the tariff on goods from India at 50% due to India’ continuing to buy oil from Russia (talk about a turn around on that relationship). These tariff games are rewriting global trade and will end up hurting the US economy over time.In this opinion piece, Steve Rattner called Trump economically illiterate. And I have to continue to agree with him although he is an establishment player through and through.

All of the tariff money that the government is “making” isn’t off the backs of foreign consumers or foreign companies or governments. That is money from the pockets of American importers. I know that the idea is that people would buy American more but this ignores the fact that we often don’t have the supply chains anymore to support many of the products that companies need and that leaves companies paying huge taxes and raising prices. We’ve seen this already with a modest uptick in inflation for July.

What I find most interesting about this is how much it mirrors the 1920s. The trade barriers, the focus on immigration. At least this time we have alcohol to get through it.

Gaza Annexed?

The Israeli Security Cabinet approved a plan to take over Gaza City this week beginning the anticipated annexation of Gaza. Admittedly, military experts in Israel have argued against taking Gaza entirely but Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President Trump have floated the idea multiple times over the past 6 months. All those jokes about a new Trump hotel in the Gaza Strip might come true. I watched plenty of TikTok’s about people who remarked on how beautiful the beaches are and what a valuable piece of land it is and why this would likely be the outcome. Another case of certain people being right months ahead of time.

In many ways, this would be a completion of the Israeli project of making every Palestinian person a stateless person. Their slow-crawl annexation of the West Bank has been going on for years, as Palestinians are removed from their homes to accommodate Israeli settlers. Obviously, some will stay and will be second-class citizens under occupation but many more will do the one thing Israel has been trying to get them to do for decades: leave.

In the wake of World War II, the world agreed that no person should be stateless and that no person should be dispossessed. This made sense at the time. One of the largest migrations in human history occurred between 1945 and 1950. Hundreds of millions throughout the world had been displaced and people moved to new places to start new lives. The migration traffic between the UK and Australia spiked. Greece and Turkey swapped out millions of people and still others left Eastern Europe while they could to escape the new Iron Curtain. The upheaval changed lives, families, and left just as big a scar as the war had on Europe and the Near East. Obviously, Jews fled Europe for British Mandate Palestine and that influx of people contributed to Israel’s independence in 1948.

Much of the outrage around this present chapter in the Israel/Palestine conflict is that the latest actions of Israel fly in the face of the post-WWII liberal order and this is taking place in a time where the US is sacrificing it’s own hegemony and its global leadership by taking the order it once led apart, piece by piece. In another day and time, there would be more downward pressure to stop this from happening.

However, we live in 2025 and there is no pressure now to stop Israel. The Biden administration didn’t pressure Tel Aviv and the Trump administration is encouraging it. The Palestinian people (Hamas can get stuffed) are caught in the midst of yet another geopolitical shift and with few allies to help them. It is a far cry from this moment in September 2024, when the Jordanian foreign minister offered Israel security guarantees to stop the conflict in Lebanon. It is clear that the Israeli plan has little to do with peace. What is it that they say? From the River to the Sea.

Interesting Video of the Week

YouTube player

As someone who has been a victim of Long Covid (for over 2 years), Covid and vaccine changed my life and my health in ways that I’m still learning to live with everyday. Dr. John Campbell became a beacon for me during the pandemic and in the years afterward as I struggled to understand what happened. In this video, we explore his deep concerns around mRNA vaccines and the problems that they cause. This video is prescient because of HHS Secretary RFK jr’s announcement this week that he is cancelling grants on mRNA vaccines and ending much of the research around these vaccines. I’m not sure if it is just a problem with the covid vaccine or the mRNA method entirely but this video gives us some data-based clarity around these vaccines and their side effects. I’m not anti-vax in any way but I think the concerns here are real.
