Your car’s paintwork is not just a majestic feature; it’s a crucial protective application that shields the bodywork from corrosion and environmental damage. Its appeal to the eye is undeniable, but its primary function is to serve as a protective shield for your vehicle.

It’s your responsibility to care for and maintain your paintwork in a way that minimizes damage. This not only keeps your car looking good but also ensures the bodywork is adequately protected.

Let’s explore a few proactive steps you can take to protect and preserve your car’s paintwork. By taking these steps, you can ensure your vehicle maintains its pristine appearance and value.

Ceramic Costings

There are many benefits to adding a ceramic coating to your vehicle. Not only can it help improve the appearance and vibrancy of the paint, but it can also provide a protective layer that reduces dirt and water and limits damage from factors such as cleaning and UV exposure.

While it’s not comprehensive protection for your paintwork, applying a ceramic coating provides long-lasting protection from common environmental issues, such as bird droppings and harsh road conditions, and requires minimal maintenance. You can ask your dealership or your dealer for these services if they have them.

Wax Regularly

Waxing your car after washing can provide an extra layer of protection to the paintwork. It seals the top layer, which means the impact of dirt and grime on the air will be reduced (not totally eliminated), and it can also protect against both rain and sun exposure. Waxing your car is a cost-effective method of protection compared to options like ceramic coatings, but it can be just as effective if done regularly.

Park Mindfully

Being mindful of where you park your car can help protect rather than increase the risk of damage to the paintwork. Avoid parking under trees to limit bird droppings and tree sap damaging the paint. Look for covered shelters, use parking garages, and cover your vehicle where possible. Limit parking in high-traffic areas or parking closer to other cars in parking lots to reduce the risk of dings, scratches, and other damage from other road users and people accessing their parked cars.

PPF

PPF is a paint protection film, a transparent plastic film applied to the body of the car for added protection of your paintwork. Applied by professionals, PPF can cover the entire vehicle or just part of it, such as the roof, bumper, and bonnet, to limit damage. Any scratches sustained on covered areas are sustained to the film and will disappear once the film is removed. Think of it like a screen protector for your cell phone. Any scratches to the screen when using a screen protector disappear once you remove the film.

Paying more than lip service to the condition and appearance of your car’s paintwork is vital. It’s an essential component of the vehicle, serving a crucial purpose. So, while making it look good is also a priority, so too is ensuring it can protect the bodywork as required.
