Throwback: Bronski Beat, Small Town Boy

The 1980s are back in style and that means it can be fun to revive some of the old music from the era. However, there is more to the 1980s than Kate Bush. Bronski Beat is one of those bands that most people have forgotten about, which is sad because they were quite popular at one time, rather like Depeche Mode. I wanted to post this video because people forget who groundbreaking visual representation of homosexuality was at the time, especially given the AIDS crisis. This video is surprisingly gay and shows the challenges of being gay in a time when that was still so unacceptable. In is rather surprising, given our current politics, that people are so far removed from how it used to be. I think that’s something to think about while the tunes serenade you.
