Everyone can benefit from having a new hobby every now and then, right? Well, maybe it’s time to give a new one a chance. Some people unwind with puzzles or crafts. But then there are others who bake bread or take care of too many plants. But on top of that, then there’s this growing group of people who relax by… tracking stuff. You know, like actual, number-filled spreadsheets. Well, it might sound a bit over-the-top, but once you get into it, it’s weirdly satisfying. Like, really, it actually is.

Basically, data-based hobbies are kind of having a moment. Technically, data-based hobbies (investing included) have been around for a while, but nowadays, it’s a lot easier to track these (thanks to all the apps, websites, and tools out there). Honestly, they can be pretty addictive too.

Logging Every Cent

Well, personal finance is probably the “gateway drug” here. So, it starts with trying to save a bit more, and next thing you know, you’ve got color-coded tabs, pie charts, and a budget spreadsheet that could run a small business. And it feels good. But really, it’s not even about being overly strict; it’s just nice to see exactly where your money goes. There’s a real sense of control when you spot patterns, like realizing you spend more on takeaway in months that start with “J.” It becomes a bit like a game, just one where the prize is not going broke.

Health Stats

Overall, fitness trackers have made health stats way more fun to obsess over. You’ve got sleep scores, step counts, hydration goals… it’s basically gamifying your own body.  People wake up and check their sleep score like it’s a grade on an exam. And somehow, walking 10,000 steps feels more exciting when it earns you a digital badge (which is fun in its own way). It just feels so rewarding in a whole to focus on your health.

Sports Stats Count Too

Okay, why wouldn’t this one count, right? So, if you’re into sports like even a little, then there’s a high chance you’ve already dipped into this world in some shape or form. For a lot of people, they’ll look into tracking player performance, match outcomes, assists, possession rates… It’s all part of the fun.

It’s not just watching the game anymore; it’s studying it, and a lot of super avid sports fans, like soccer (or call it football in other parts of the world), will use Football Stats to make it easier to keep tabs on players as well as sports trends. If you’re into fantasy sports, well, that’s technically super data-based too.

Tracking Moods

You know those mood rings that exist? Well, no, not the ones kids used to wear way back when, but those data tracking rings (which do track moods nowadays). Well, some people track money, others track feelings. But mood logs, habit trackers, energy level charts, well, it’s all a thing now. Sure, maybe it’s a tad weird, but at the same time, it makes sense.

It’s kind of cool to spot your own patterns, like figuring out you’re always extra tired after social events or that journaling actually helps your mood more than you expected. Technically, you don’t need those modern rings; you don’t even need an app, either.
