I watched this rather interesting video because I found it in a subreddit and I wanted to see how Steven Fry and Jordan Peterson could agree on anything. Only watch the first hour, after that it becomes filled with interruptions and cross-talk, but the initial arguments are interesting. When it comes to free speech, I am an ardent defender of all kinds of speech, even speech from Trump supporters. Once the censorship beings, it can quickly spiral out of control and effect people that it wasn’t meant to censor. As an artist, I’m sensitive to the history of censorship in art and I don’t like the current attitude on the Left, that even speech must be censored to serve a greater goal. I also understand the affect certain kinds of speech has on groups of people. I’ve had to see/hear/read racist things and homophobic things. That speech should make us fight harder for equality and fairness in society rather than simply trying to use censorship as a way to stop people from saying or even thinking certain things. This is a good watch. Please do take the time. If you’ve been bothered by “call out culture” and “political correctness” then this is a must-watch!
