Every company should look to improve morale in the workplace – it’s so important for various reasons! When morale is high, you’ll find the overall atmosphere at work more positive. Staff will work harder, increasing productivity, and you’ll be more likely to attract better candidates when employing. On top of this, you’ll gain a positive reputation for being a great place to work – when you think of Google or Apple, it instantly springs to mind that they are great places to work.
So what can you do to improve morale in the workplace? There are numerous ways. You could look into training your employees, for example, Professional Learning in Education (if this is your sector). You could offer rewards when certain KPI’s are hit, or you could look to improve the office by making upgrades and improving your business’s appearance.
Keep on reading for our guide on how to improve morale in the workplace.
Training your staff members
If you want to improve morale, then you should be prioritising your staff and showing them you care about their development. Part of showing them you care is offering them training sessions to help them improve and grow. Training sessions could be done in-house, via an external company or online seminars. They can be a day’s event or a course which lasts a few months – the longer courses will offer more benefits.
Offering rewards when KPI’s are hit
Show your staff you appreciate them by rewarding them with bonuses when certain KPI’s are hit. You could run a pyramid scheme whereby the rewards increase the better they perform. For example, an entry reward could be a meal out, then the next level a financial bonus, with the top reward being a night away in a hotel somewhere. By KPI’s being hit, you know your company will be bringing in more money, which means you can offer more as a reward.
Improving the office environment
Make your office a place people are proud of and enjoy coming into to work. So many companies neglect their office, even though improving it could be a quick win and a way to improve morale in the workplace. Think about decorating the walls with inspirational colours, hanging up art on the wall, or purchasing plants to fill empty spaces and add another dynamic to the room. Smell is also important, which is where room sprays can be useful to create an inviting scent when people come in.
There are a myriad of changes you can make to improve morale in the workplace. What changes are you planning on making to your business to improve morale?
