As adult men, we often have trouble making friends after high school or college. Unfortunately, men often find it difficult to make other male friends post-college, which means if they have to move for a job or simply find themselves with a dwindling number of friends for one reason or another, things can get pretty lonely. I can’t count how many friends I’ve lost because a guy paired off with a girl and we never heard from him again. This is a bad habit that we need to break. Guys need friends for all sorts of reasons and your wife/girlfriend will appreciate not being your only emotional outlet.
We all need friends. We need people we can rely on to have our backs when things get tough; people we enjoy shooting the breeze with and having a good time with; people who we can talk to when we have something we need to get off our chest.
The good news, if you are in a similar situation, is that although it can be difficult to make friends as an adult male, it is not impossible, Below you will find some of the best ideas to help you make lifelong friends with other men:
Make an effort
If you want more guy friends, you need to get out there and make it happen. It’s easy to just veg out in front of the TV or just mess around on PlayStation. Friends don’t just magically appear, you have to put yourself out there if you want to attract that new best bud, so hit the mall, join a sports club, or maybe even check out Meetup to see if there are any local clubs you might like to join.
Take up a hobby
When it comes to making new guy friends, your best bet is to take up a hobby that is usually make-centric. For example, instead of just reading the latest sports news on https://sportnews.in/, get involved in a local football team instead of simply going to the shooting range alone, join a club, and start networking.
If you’re a sports fan, you can even get into sports betting New York, which is now legal and is lots of fun.
Ask for an introduction
If you do not have many guy friends because you have moved to a new city and you don’t have a good way to meet people, there is nothing wrong with admitting this and asking co-workers and the like if there is anyone they think you may hit it off with. People are almost always willing to help, so swallow the toxic masculinity, admit you have a friend problem, and take it from there.
Practice makes perfect
Some men find it hard to attract new guy friends because they don’t have much practice in trying to get a guy to like them. They know how to flirt with women, but guys, not so much, so they end up getting it wrong. The good news is that you can learn how to be that guy that everyone is drawn to by practicing. Go to a bar and start up a conversation about the craft beer on tap or the local sports team and keep doing that until you get good at it, and until you have more than enough guy friends who value your company.
Join a networking group
Of course, work can be a good source of potential friends, so why not join a professional networking group with a view to making friends? At the very least you will all have your profession in common.
I hope you try out some of these ideas and that you find lifelong friends who you can enjoy and who will enjoy being in your company too. Lets get friendly.
