Shooting can be a great hobby and a worthwhile pastime, and it’s often the kind of thing that people enjoy doing with groups of their friends. If you are thinking about going shooting at some point in the near future, but it’s not something you have ever done before, you might find yourself wondering what it is going to be like and what you can actually expect from the situation. Let’s take a look now at some of the things that you should expect when you go shooting for the first time.

Choose The Right Range

You will need to make sure you are careful about which range you choose, because not all shooting ranges are the same. Some are indoors, others are outdoors, and each may have different rules and atmospheres. An indoor range is more controlled but tends to be louder, while outdoor ranges offer more space and ventilation. Before you go, check if the range requires reservations and what types of firearms they allow. You’ll want to make sure that you are aware of all this going in, as it will generally make it a much better experience for you.

What To Bring

A big difficulty if you have never been shooting before is knowing what you might be expected to bring or what you should have in order to feel prepared. Most ranges rent firearms and sell ammunition, but it’s a good idea to call ahead and ask about their policies anyway. It might be that you need some extra equipment like a HikMicro Alpex 4K, in which case you will probably need to bring it yourself. On top of that, make sure you have your ID with you, and that you are wearing proper attire – including closed-toe shoes and a high-neck shirt.

Safety First

It should go without saying that safety needs to be a priority when you are at a gun range. The people there are going to make sure of this, but it’s also a responsibility that you have as an individual too, and you should therefore make sure that you are thinking about how you might be able to approach this. Expect there to be a strong emphasis on safety and that, if it’s your first time, you are probably going to have to go over lots of safety rules before you can fire a gun.

Be Prepared

In terms of firing the gun, be prepared for what it can feel like, especially if you have never fired one before. You should expect a recoil, which is the kickback from the gun and can be quite surprising, even for a smaller caliber weapon. There is also the noise to consider – you will be asked to wear ear protection, but it will still be incredibly loud, especially if it is indoors. Be ready for this so you are not caught off guard. If you can do that, you’ll feel much more ready in general.
