It seems that I like writing about internet personalities, especially when they don’t return requests for Interviews in the Interview series. Chris Thompson of SupDaily06 is one such person. I check in on his videos from time to time if they are good. His Instagram can be rather interesting.
I think we all have this kind of friend. Chris Thompson is a prominent Youtuber that creates short daily videos on everything from the comparison of Straight Sex and Gay Sex with Davy Wavy and to his on-going series on his terrible Tinder dates. Now, of this writing we’ll be seeing less about Tinder because he has recently acquired a girlfriend. However, I’m sure he will be gracing us with other interesting videos. He does a good job of being that awesome friend that everyone feels comfortable asking questions to and asking about the most intimate subjects from sex to dating to school and fitness. The “DailyCrew” (as he refers to his followers) are devoted people who not only ask questions but support him financially through Patreon. He is also into fitness and running and recently moved to L.A. to be with the aforementioned girlfriend.
Watching his videos reminds of the intimate conversations I would have with my friends in college where we would banter back and forth and share secrets, stories and tips and tricks to help each other. In that ways it seems to be a bit juvenile. Chris is in his early 30s but his demeanor seems to be stuck at about 22. Somehow, as someone who is actively working on his life and someone who actually enjoys being over 25, his videos come off as a bit inept and puerile. I appreciate his boyish charm and cheerful attitude and his interest experiences but he could use some seasoning and some maturity.
I will say this, he makes a great foil for the dating problems and social foibles of millennials. He is a voice for a generation of people who are balancing all the areas of life from fitness to dating and career. This kind of openness, while not new, is certainly unique to a generation of Millennials who crave consensus from peers on their actions and decisions. Chris is also launching his life coaching business in the new year.
Chris is a new kind of masculinity that can express both the pictures I’ve chosen: a fear man-baby in a tub and the confident hyper-masculine alpha male on a running trip. I always welcome a man who can show the full range of male emotion and in his small way redefine masculinity and give men a space to be both of those things. It is very good.
I look forward to see what Chris brings us in the future. I am impressed by the loyal community of people that he surrounded himself with and how people trust him with their issues and problems see his advice. He is the friend that we all need from time to time. Move over Dear Abby, its the SupDaily Crew.
