Stay in the loop

Welcome to my weekly newsletter! As promised, I’m sending out a weekly message with the latest from me as well as a wrap up of the week in the news! We are deep into fall and I’m enjoying slightly cooler weather and the early darkness (I’m a night guy). The holidays are approaching too and I’ve already got Christmas gifts on the brain. It seems like 2024 has flown by.

The Latest

This past week, the country has settled into the prospect of a Trump presidency, and it seems that things are already fractious within the GOP. Trump issued several picks for various cabinet positions including controversial figures like Matt Gaetz of Florida for Attorney General and RFK Jr. for Health and Human Services. Trump already has met some opposition from inside his party for his picks, especially Matt Gaetz. He also has to deal with the new leader in the Senate: John Thune of South Dakota who has replaced Mitch McConnell as Senate Majority Leader. Not only is Trump trying to get around the Senate confirmation process but Thune is not going to be a yes man and has already indicated as such. Again, it has only been a week!

The mainstream media is in crisis. Both CNN and MSNBC have seen ratings plummet following the election and rumor has it that CNN is planning layoffs and letting go of some of its high-priced talent including Anderson Cooper and Dana Bash. Given their post-election coverage and the unhappiness of their viewership, this is no surprise. One of the things I’ve seen most from Harris voters online is their general disengagement from politics. It seems like many people are planning on getting through the next several years by simply ignoring it all. That impetus makes sense but I think its a bad move.

The stock market seems to have already soured on the Trump presidency falling somewhat this week. Warren Buffett and Jeff Bezos made headlines this week for their big selloff of stocks. The prospect of Tariffs has companies scrambling to stock up before Trump’s inauguration in January so that they are prepared before input prices begin to rise.

In geopolitics, Israel is heating up its conflict by striking Iran again. The Houthi rebels fired rockets at the USS Abraham Lincoln and attacked the carrier group with drones. The attack was repelled by the two Destroyers in the carrier group during its transit near Yemen off the coast of the Arabian Peninsula.

This Week on The Cameron Journal

There was no interview on the show this week because I’m behind on video editing but I am catching up and I have great content for you through the end of the year! However, if you missed The Cameron Journal Newshour last week I have it for you here. There will be no Newshour this week as I’m doing a bit of travelling. I may pop onto TikTok (@cameronjournal) for a little live or some short videos.
