Speed Kills! Or so the old saying goes. It’s not wrong. As someone who has been a professional driver, the first thing you learn in driving school is that speed makes every problem worse. However, in this video, we see another perspective. The idea from this video is simple: if you slow down all traffic to 20 miles an hour, including cars, streets will be safer, and fewer people will be killed. Car accidents kill around 50,000 people a year, but pedestrian accidents increase that number by a third. The anti-car urbanist crowd would like to make it as hard as possible to own and operate a car so that eventually, cars will be eliminated as a transportation method so that we go back to riding bicycles and walking. I’m not a fan of this as it limits accessibility for many people (including myself) and makes it hard to get around to parts of cities not served well by transit. I invite you to watch the video and see what you think.
