A road trip with dogs can be a welcome retreat from the stress of life for you and the puppies. Of course, things don’t always go to plan, and some dogs can even be a bit unruly when in the car. From getting a vet check to taking food and water, here are some small tips that can help.

Pack Comfort Items

Like humans, dogs enjoy the comforts of life. A favorite blanket, the squeakiest toy, and even their own food bowls. They can become very attached to their stuff! Having the things they love can be enough to help them feel like they aren’t away from home when on the road. You can place their items in a portable dog kennel when you are camping or staying at a lodging. This will also help keep them close and prevent them from roaming too far in an unfamiliar place.

Get a Clean Bill of Health

Viruses and diseases are everywhere, and there are some that cause illness in dogs. If you plan to stay at dog-friendly places and visit popular pet destinations, there is a chance that dog viruses are present. Before setting, make sure you get a clean bill of health and up-to-date vaccinations for the dog. Otherwise, you are basically winging it and taking the chance that your dogs could get really ill on what should be a fun and loving adventure for both of you.

Practice a Small Road Trip with Dogs

Around 51% of US homes have at least one dog, and countries like the UK are also pretty fond of furry pooches. Travelling on the road can be stressful for humans, so of course, dogs can get a little too excited, too. Fortunately, there are a few ways you can keep the dog calm when driving through pet-friendly cities. However, one of the most powerful is to get your dog accustomed to being in the car with practice runs that get a bit longer each time you set off.

Take Plenty of Food and Water

You can probably make stops and get the food and water your dog needs. However, it may not be possible to get the brands your dog enjoys. And as you may know, puppies can become miserable when they don’t have the food they are used to. Pack the car with enough of the brand they prefer and enough water for the stops you need to make. And of course, it can also help to take their favorite food and water bowls to encourage healthy habits when on the road.

Don’t Forget Cleaning Supplies

While people have trained themselves to go to the toilet, dogs don’t really care. Even well-trained dogs can have accidents due to the long journeys and the stress of being on the road. Then there are hairs. If you enjoy a clean and tidy car, then you will need cleaning supplies such as wipes or even a handheld vacuum cleaner to remove dirt and debris. Of course, you will also need plenty of poop bags, dog wipes, and a towel for drying off the dog.

Summary

Packing comfort items like their favorite toys can help make your next road trip with dogs music more stress-free for them, and you! If the dog gets stressed, it helps to practice smaller road trips. However, you will also need cleaning supplies such as baby wipes and poop bags.
