There’s Drama on BookTok

First of all, if you aren’t following the account in this video, you should be. She is great for those of us who love books! Now, turning to the subject of the video, Booktok has been the biggest thing to hit the publishing industry since the printing press. It has enabled indie authors to draw followings, and publishers have started to use it to sell books and develop new markets. It seems like everything is ok. Oh no. I’m not terribly involved in Booktok but I do like to poke my head in from time to time. It turns out that racism has reached the community, and accusations abound. it even involves the TikTok algorithm and who gets promoted versus who is never seen. Then, you pile in the “fake Booktokers” and this situation is ripe for some nice internet drama. This is about as big as the recent author/reviewer scandal where an author attacked a reviewer of their book. If you want to dive into the drama and get the tea spilled, then this video is for you!
