John Oliver is very good at exposing scams in plain sight and none is worse than time shares. If you aren’t familiar, the idea is fairly simple: people buy into a building at an exotic location and part of their ownership is their ability to stay there during a few weeks (or other set time) during the year. Some companies run it as more a membership thing now. However, time shares can get expensive quickly. Maintenance fees add up and other “costs of ownership” can add up really fast. Even the membership model has hidden fees that are sure to add up. In this video, John Oliver breaks down why timeshares are a barely legal scam.
