An end-of-summer break can be just what you need. It can save money and bring the hot season to a joyous end for you, your partner or your family. Here are some valuable tips.

Stock Up on UV and Sun Protection

The summer of 2022 has been one of the hottest in a long time, breaking temperature records across many countries. As a result, we have had wildfires, drought and drownings. Yet it’s always necessary to protect yourself from the sun. And as the summer comes to an end, UV radiation can remain strong well into October. So stock up on sun essentials such as sunglasses, lotion and shading equipment like parasols and hats to help prevent the worst. Problems like heat stroke, exhaustion and UV exposure can cause severe medical issues.

Pack Warm Clothes for an End-of-Summer Break

On the flip side, the temperature can become uneven and unpredictable as we approach autumn. A much welcome reprieve from the beating heat, milder nights can seem like a godsend sometimes. Yet you should also remember that it can become pretty chill once summer is almost over. As the days get shorter, the temperature can also drop drastically in some places. And you may also begin to see the beginnings of autumnal weather such as wind and rain, even in Mediterranean countries. So don’t forget to pack a sweater or two before you go.

Don’t Forget Your Smartphone

Like most people, you probably have a smartphone and take it with you everywhere. But it’s important you don’t forget your phone when travelling. A smartphone is a lifeline, and a link to others should something go wrong. However, it’s also a handy tool for getting all the info you need. Information such as flight delays, local transportation, news and incoming weather reports. Therefore, it’s safe to say that your smartphone is a valuable piece of equipment. Pack a spare phone with a full charge for extra safety, and try not to forget your charger.

Plan What You Want to Do

As summer comes to an end, you can feel like time is running out to do the things you want. Which is often made worse if you have children. Additionally, many attractions like theme parks begin to close as colder weather approaches. Here’s how you can plan ahead:

  • Make a list of activities.
  • Schedule around your list.
  • Book trips in advance.
  • Use up ingredients for lunches to save money.
  • Plan some alone time with your partner.

Knowing what you can and cannot do in the time you have is a massive help. But you must make the most of your time with a schedule. You can save time and money by booking certain things in advance, and taking your own food will lessen the financial burden of buying when out.

Get a Cheaper End-of-Summer Break

Like many things these days, the price of a holiday is seasonal. For instance, summer holidays are more expensive as operators try to make more money while people are off work and the kids are off school. If you plan on taking a holiday far away from home, you can save considerably if you look for an end-of-season break. May, June and September are generally the cheapest times of year to go away. So consider booking a holiday during the August and September transitions. However, be sure to schedule before your kids go back to school.

Get Up Early to Maximize Daylight

As we approach colder seasons, the sun rises later and goes down earlier. While it’s nothing near the very short days of winter, autumn days can feel very short compared to just a few weeks before. As a result, some attractions begin to close earlier. Theme parks are a perfect example. So if you want to make the most of the daylight available and places you can visit, you must get up earlier. Doing this means you can arrive at your destination upon opening and remain all day if you need to. Therefore, getting to do everything you planned.

Sit Back and Watch the Sun Go Down

Of course, what goes up, must come down. And the sun does this every night. Being on holiday, especially at summer’s end, means seeing spectacular sunsets. Depending on where you are, these are made even more special. For instance, there’s pretty much no substitute for the intense orange and pink skies over the glistening Pacific Ocean water. The serene beauty of a sunset like this also makes it incredibly romantic. So even if you get to only do it once, make sure you spend some time with your partner watching the sunset wherever you are.

Summary

An end-of-summer break can be just what you need. First, however, you need to be aware of the dangers of the sun. But also plan a schedule around attractions, and take some alone time.
