When it comes to Labor in America, we’ve seen a big drop in union membership since the peak in the 1960s. However, a good labor union is a worker’s best defense against the predation of business. While the rest of the country has been leaving labor unions behind, one city out west has embraced them. The Las Vegas hospitality workers union has a contract with every major casino in town and not only do they help workers, they actually make things easier on the company by providing training and opportunity for people to move up. They focus on fair pay and creating a well-trained workforce for Sin City. This is similar to the German model of unions and if deployed nation-wide, it would be a powerful force in the dynamics between labor and capital.

In this PBS News Hour report, they show how this union is working and what it takes to create a 21st-century labor union.
