As you know, being outside and doing outdoor-related activity has a way of boosting mental health, right? But doing the more nostalgic things also has a way of boosting mental health. When you were a kid, do you remember fishing with your dad or grandpa? It might have been so basic, but you probably couldn’t help but to love it, right? Well, yeah, even nowadays these fishing trips still get a bit of a reputation of being not-so-glamorous, like the soggy soggy sandwiches, instant coffee in a chipped thermos, and folding chairs that feel like they were designed to punish you for sitting too long.
It’s not fun, but at the same time, there’s that nostalgic factor to all of this that just feels so special. But nowadays, if you really don’t want to, none of it needs to be rough-and-ready or mud-splattered ordeal. If you wanted, you could make some tweaks here and there to make it feel more special and a bit more luxurious. Just something that feels, well, less basic and mundane.
Arrive like You’re in a Lifestyle Magazine
The “luxury” feeling starts before you’ve even cast your first line. Seriously, there’s absolutely nothing chic or fun about a chaotic boat launch where someone’s yelling “LEFT, NO RIGHT” while you’re cranking the wheel and silently regretting your life choices. Honestly, just something small like this will ruin the rest of your day, and maybe even the rest of the trip if you’re doing this for multiple days.
Depending on how often you’re on the move, like moving a boat, or, well, anything else with a trailer, it might be high time to just finally have a high-quality trailer mover since it takes the faff out of docking. Why? Well, it’s so you can step off your boat looking calm, collected, and like you totally have your life together.
Swap Sad Snacks for Something Worth Posting
Well, not really worth posting on social media or anything like that, but if your “fishing snacks” come in a crinkled plastic bag from the gas station, then, well, it might not be such a good idea. Sure, as a kid, those can fly, but as an adult, do you really want that? This is your moment to curate something that feels indulgent but still easy to eat while balancing a rod.
This could be something like flaky croissants, a wedge of brie, fresh berries, and maybe something sweet like chocolate truffles or sparkling water. Some people will even buy an angler box and fill it with snacks (which is called a Snackle Box if you Google it). None of these things even takes away from the “rusticness” that fishing has, so you’ll still be experiencing the right atmosphere.
It’s All in the Gear
Well, when it comes to fishing rods, most avid fishers will already go all out with all of this, so you can excuse that one for just a moment. Just generally speaking, comfort doesn’t have to mean sacrificing style. Like, if you want to, you can swap the squeaky camping chair for one that actually supports your back and doesn’t look like it’s been through a small war. The same could be said for sunglasses or a hat, or even the cooler (since every fisher needs a cooler for their food and drinks).
