You may love your job, but that doesn’t mean that you’ll love all aspects of your career. For one thing, you might hate that you need to make a long car journey just to get to and from the office each day. I used to do a Tacoma to Seattle commute that was 3 hours round trip a day. It was a pain for sure. It would be nice if we were paid for the time it took to get to work, but alas, that’s not something that many companies offer! It’s always important to remember, however, that we can usually improve an experience just by making a few subtle changes.
Here are some tried and tested methods for making your commute a little bit more bearable.
Find The Best Route
There’s normally more than one way to reach a destination! So why not look to see if there’s a better option available? This is especially relevant to people who end up driving in uninspiring landscapes filled with traffic. That’s just a bit soul-destroying. If you take a look, you might find that there’s a more scenic route you could take. The trip might take a little bit longer, but if it’s a more pleasant journey, then it’ll be worth it.
Get a Better Vehicle
Your trip to work won’t be enjoyable if you don’t like the vehicle that you’re driving. If your car is old, beaten up, and a little dingy on the inside, then you’ll be putting yourself through misery every day. The solution? Get a better car! You don’t necessarily need to get a new car. Just a better one. There are used car dealerships where you can find great deals on excellent vehicles, so take a look at what’s available. With a new set of wheels, you might just find that you actually look forward to your commute!
…And Keep It Clean
It’s not just the model of the car that’ll influence your enjoyment of driving. The cleanliness of the vehicle will, too. It’s easy for cars to become a little bit cluttered. We tend to use them as moving storage facilities and trash cans. But over time, that’ll negatively impact your driving experience. You can greatly enhance your commute just by taking the time to clean your vehicle. If you don’t want to do this job yourself, hand the task to a professional valet service. They’ll make sure that your car is as spotless as can be.
Podcasts and Entertainment
In this day and age, there are plenty of options for staying entertained when you’re driving to work. For example, you could load up a podcast — there’s one on just about every topic, so choose one related to your interests and give it a listen. A long drive to work is also the perfect opportunity to discover some new music (or rediscover old favorites). Another option is to use your commute as a way to improve yourself. If you spent the drive learning a new language, for instance, it wouldn’t be long before you have a new skill under your belt.
