If you have a pet, you may wish to bring them along on vacation with you. It’s nice to sometimes bring them instead of placing them in private kennels or having a pet-sitter in, as anyone knows who has a dog who gets anxious when they’re gone, or a cat who absolutely refuses to cooperate with any kind of travel plans.
That said, most hotels can claim to be pet friendly but then hit you with ridiculous fees, size restrictions, or policies that make you feel like you’re smuggling something as opposed to bringing along a beloved family member who has four legs instead of two.
That’s because quite a few pet friendly accommodations are really just tolerating pets rather than actually welcoming them, which means you end up spending your vacation worrying about whether your furry companion is comfortable and whether you’re going to get charged extra for something.
It’s good to plan out vacation types that are much more likely to allow pets naturally, where bringing your dog or cat along feels normal rather than like you’re asking for special favors. Let’s get into that below:
RV Travel
RV travel might be the ultimate pet friendly vacation option because you’re actually bringing your pet’s home environment along with you wherever you go, which means they get to sleep in surroundings they actually know, even while exploring completely new places every day. Your dog can have their favorite bed, their usual food bowls, and all their toys right there in the RV, which can make the whole experience much less stressful for animals who don’t handle change particularly well. Most RV parks are very comfortable and allow pets too.
You’ll likely also find that such RV camping gives your pets access to outdoor experiences they could never have during regular hotel stays, like more trails that start right from your campsite or lakes where dogs are welcome to swim and play fetch in the water without anyone worrying about wet paws.
Camping
Camping is usually pet-friendly because you’re basically living outdoors where pets naturally belong anyway, and most campgrounds actively encourage people to bring their dogs along since they understand that camping and dogs just go together perfectly. Your pet can be off leash in many camping situations, as long as you’re respectful and manage them well.
You’ll also find other camping pet owners, so you’ll find yourself surrounded by people who understand that dogs bark sometimes, and pets are just part of the outdoor experience. It can be nice knowing you’re not walking on eggshells.
Beach House Rentals
Beach house rentals can be absolutely perfect for pet owners because you get an entire house to yourselves rather than sharing walls with neighbors who might complain about barking, and most beach towns understand that dogs and beaches just go together, so they hhave pretty relaxed attitudes about pets in general. Your dog can run around in the sand too, or splash in the waves, and basically live out their best beach vacation dreams while you relax knowing they’re having just as much fun as you are.
With this advice, we hope you can more easily plan your vacation with your dog as opposed to just around them. We can’t promise they’ll contribute to the holiday budget, though.
