Clothing is one of the least green industries today. Fast fashion, or clothes that go from design to production in as little as 2 months, is even worse. These clothes are meant to be worn and disposed of as fast as they are mad. This adds a terrible environmental impact onto an industry that creates plenty of waste. However, companies like Patagonia and others are rejecting the fast fashion method and are looking to create clothes that you can wear for years to come and reduce waste while doing it. I don’t think this will become an industry-wide trend. The demand for cheap clothes that may not last long goes back to the earliest days of the profession. However, in a world focused on sustainability as a goal, fast fashion is an area where cleaning up the waste is as easy as shopping.
