Elon and the Oligarchs

In this video from Adam Conover, he talks about how Elon won the 2024 election. Everyone is still processing the 2024 election and I thought this video was interesting because I think it tells a much bigger story, a story about the wealthy, who already have outsized power in this country, taking an even greater role. It is no secret that Silicon Valley types like Elon Musk and Peter Theil have chafed against the government in the past. Nevermind that both of these men have benefitted from the largesse of government spending. It has become clear that both men either indirectly (Theil) or directly (Musk) are not content with being wealthy and dealing with the government. They actively want to destroy and dismantle the parts of the government they don’t find useful to them and their dreams. Obviously, for institutional-minded Democrats, this was a non-starter but for the GOP, it was right at home, at least for the libertarian wing of the GOP. With Trump on board, the old guard of the GOP has been silenced and the party is now firmly in the hands of those who wish to tear our entire system apart. In our reality, John Galt (Ayn Rand, Atlas Shrugged) has decided to get involved in politics.
