I hope you don’t mind a letter from someone who hasn’t been a child since the 90s. This year I felt like reaching out to you again because things have gotten a little bit weird down here. It’s been difficult down here in the rest of the world. You might have heard about this Pandemic. It’s had an adverse effect on everyone but especially children, the population you’re most concerned with. They have been stuck at home, endured distance schooling, and many lost out on opportunities. A generation could be left behind due to skills loss from poor education. Perhaps consider more educational toys alongside their usual requests. I’m sure you’re getting many requests for PS5s and Xbox Ones. I should note that my PS4 is great and I like it but if you’ve got an extra one laying around and it just happens to find its way to my Christmas tree; I won’t tell anyone.
This year it seems like we need a miracle to get through what we face. I know that things must be difficult at the North Pole too what with climate change slowly melting your home. On the bright side, it might be good for real estate prices. The only downside is that you’ll be getting some new oil drilling neighbors sooner rather than later. If I were you, I’d tell the Polar Bears to get their property paperwork in order and charge royalties for all that oil. Drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge did not go through this year and this might be a possible location for a new Santas workshop. Get a good price from the oil people before you move. But enough about that. I have an adult Christmas list that I’d like you to consider.
The election didn’t quite turn out the way that we all hoped. While it was significant that Biden won, his ability to pass legislation is compromised by a republican senate. If you have any ability to get us the two runoff seats in Georgia, that would be helpful to get America back on track. Over the past 4 years, America has abandoned the world stage to some degree and our reputation has seen better days. At this point, while some might call it Trump Derangement Syndrome, we’ve never needed a Christmas miracle more than now. We have tough days ahead as a country so any help you could offer would be appreciated (see the previous request re: Georgia runoffs).
I’m also mindful this year of all those 43 million Americans who are facing eviction because of the pandemic. They need a Christmas miracle too. Congress is working on stimulus but I don’t know how much it will help. Another Christmas miracle would be handy here too. There are many people who may have never been homeless before suddenly on the street with few skills for street living and in the middle of Winter. We could end up with refugee camps or more homeless encampments in short order if something isn’t done at the state level to stop this catastrophe from happening. There are many people out of work and many businesses closed. We are in for a hard, long winter and a very lonely Christmas. Many of us cannot travel home due to the pandemic and many of us are facing an uncertain future. I know you can’t heal viruses but you are skilled at spreading Christmas cheer and I hope that you can spread some around this year. Never before has the world needed your special brand of Christmas.
I won’t keep you as I know this is your busiest time of the year. If you find yourself in downtown Seattle, I’ll leave a little Bacardi 151 dark out for you.
