How does the government pay for new programs? Why is making sure that new programs are "paid for" so important? In this video, we analyze this question.

If you watched politics for any length of time, you’ll notice that one refrain you will hear is, “how is the government going pay for X proposal?” This is often used by Republican to complain about Democrat proposals to actually improve people’s lives. You hear this much less when it comes to defense spending. In this video, we learn about why this question is rather disingenuous is more often used to stop useful spending than really asking how to pay for things. The government can raise taxes, print money, borrow money, or cut other parts of the budget. The maxim of making sure that any proposal is “paid for” is better at shutting down discussion than fostering discussion. This video talks about this perfectly and I hope you will watch!
