When you’re injured, it can feel like you’ve lost that invincibility you thought your body posessed. It’s not until you find yourself injured, that you suddenly feel very vulnerable and exposed.
Whether it was an accident or not, it’s good to know what your rights are when you get injured, especially if it happens within your place of work or within a public environment.
With that being said, if you’re looking to understand what your rights are when injured, then here are some helpful tips to know.
Document the incident and report it
First and foremost, make sure to document the incident. This is important so that you have all of the relevant information and that it’s as fresh as it can be, rather than documenting it some twenty to fourty eight hours later.
Reporting the incident is also imperative so that all the relevant individuals and authorities know about it. When an accident or any injury happens, particularly in a place of work or in a public domain, reporting it quickly is going to help to get your rightful compensation or time off work to recover if necessary.
Get legal advice
Legal advice is important to gather when you’ve been injured. This is certainly a good idea where you feel as though the injury could have been prevented and therefore someone is to blame or needs to be held accountable for their actions.
With that being said, look at the services of a personal injury lawyer. They’ll be able to provide you with accurate information and guidance on what to do first, second and third. That way, you give yourself the best opportunity at the outcome that you want and deserve from the situation that’s played out.
Seek medical attention for your records
Medical attention is something you want to seek out straight away, regardless of whether you think, you’ve been injured badly or not.
For example, if you’ve been caught up in an accident and it was a result of wreckless driving, then getting yourself checked over a the hospital will provide your case against the individual or individuals with evidence and a record that you followed up with appointments and necessary check-ups for your health and wellbeing.
Gather evidence and witness statements
Next, you’ll want to gather any evidence or witness statements that might be applicable and suggested by your legal advisor.
Try to do these at the scene where it happened or at least later on if you’re able to return. It’s also good, where possible to seek out witness statements. That way, you’ve got additional evidence where times or situations might not be accounted for if you were unconscious, etc.
Act promptly and be truthful
When it comes to any injury that might have been caused as a lack of someone else’s due diligence, then it’s always important to be truthful and act promptly. Doing both will ensure you get the justice you deserve and that your rights are protected.
With that in mind, make sure to follow these tips, should you find yourself injured from something or someone.
