Having a clean and tidy home will always add to your quality of life. It also makes your home look its best too. But when things get a bit out of hand and you find that your home is super cluttered, it can feel a bit stressful. The best thing to do in this situation is to tackle it head-on. Here’s how to do it.
Create a Plan
First of all, you’re going to want to think about creating a bit of a plan for how you’re going to tackle this. Of course, what you actually need to do will always depend on the size of your house, what rooms need working on, and the extent of the disorganization. So, it can often help for you to sit down and work out how you’re going to tackle it. Again, this might be something that takes a few days, or even weeks or months to do gradually. So, it’s a good idea to have a plan of action before you begin.
Go Room By Room
In most cases, it makes a lot of sense to go room by room as you do this. The last thing you want is to get started on a bunch of different rooms or areas at once, then get tired and have to leave things midway through. It makes a lot of sense ot start in one room, in one area. It might be that you tackle books, for example, or even cutlery or crockery. It’s all about being able to break the task down into bite-sized pieces that are easy for you to jump into when you have a slot of time.
Find Better Storage Solutions
Something that will be a huge part of the process for you here is storage. If you know that you have too much stuff and nowhere to store it, it’s time to change it. Firstly, look into external storage options and consult a storage unit size guide to help you pick a suitable space. That way, you can store seasonal items that you don’t need every day, and free up space in your home. You’ll then want to bring in storage solutions for each room, to help keep everything else tidy.
Donate What You Don’t Need
You can also look at having a huge clear-out too. Sometimes, you just accumulate stuff that you don’t overly need. So make sure that you have a decluttering checklist to follow as you go through. Then, you can set items aside to donate to charity. Or, if there’s stuff beyond salvaging, you’ll be able to send it to be recycled.
Establish a Routine
At this point, you may find that everything is looking so much better and exactly how you want it to be. But at the same time, you also need to ensure that it stays this way. After all, the last thing you want is to have it get cluttered again in a matter of weeks. So, here, you need to ensure that you’re establishing a routine that will allow you to keep things clean and tidy going forward. Whether it’s putting in a one-in, one-out rule or making sure that everything gets put back where it belongs after you have used it, this can help you to keep everything neat and tidy for longer.
