When running any business, whether it is a large corporate business, or a small start-up, bringing in as much revenue as possible is key. The formula is fairly simple, the more revenue you bring in as a business, the more you can reinvest to grow and the more profits you will have to enjoy. Plus, the more revenue you are bringing in, the less stressful running a business can be – there is nothing worse than when you aren’t bringing in enough money!
So how can you bring in more revenue as a small business owner? There are a myriad of ways. You can invest in your advertising, work on your social media strategy, improve your print media, with quality leaflets, and consider training your staff members. Your website is something you want to focus on as well as your offering – there could be other markets that you can enter.
You’ll never be stuck to find new ways to bring in greater revenue as a small business owner. The challenge is deciding what method is best for you and will require the least investment initially, as there may be some quick wins for you. The amount of experience you have in the chosen method will also help you!
Below we have put together our guide on five ways to bring in a greater revenue as a small business owner.
Invest in the correct advertising
One of the best ways to reach new customers is through paid advertising! Paid advertising can be done through many different avenues, including ads on YouTube Videos, Banner Ads on websites, Facebook ads, Google Ads or TikTok Ads. Other ways of advertising include sponsored posts, working with influencers or running competitions with a media outlet – it depends on what your offering is. For example, a product launch may benefit from an influencer advertising it, whereas a building company may benefit more from using Google Ads in their local area. How much you spend on advertising varies, however when doing advertising, make sure you are getting good reports back, so you know if you are getting a good return on investment – the last thing you want to do is throw money away on Ads with no engagement!
Work on your social media strategy
If there is one area of your business that you should be focusing on in today’s world, that is your social media strategy. Social media can transform your business from a small business to a large one in a matter of months if done correctly. Through well thought out posts, you’ll be able to reach new customers, reconnect with your old customers as well as grow your overall awareness. What social media channels you choose, is very much dependent on the type of media you create. TikTok and Instagram are great for video, whereas Facebook is better for blog content or sharing general news. If you haven’t got any experience in social media management, there are plenty of freelancers out there that you can reach out to for support. If your budget allows it, you could also consider an agency to look after your social media, however, this can be expensive. When reaching out for support, it’s important you ask for testimonials and previous work so that you can see examples of what they have done previously.
Improve your website
Your website is your shopfront, a good website and people are likely to stay on and browse. A bad website and they will quickly leave and find one of your competitors. With technology so developed, there is no excuse for having a bad website, which is why you should invest in it, if you don’t think it’s doing the job – you’ll see your revenue grow very quickly. Our advice would be to reach out to a UI/UX expert and they will be able to perform a revenue, giving guidance to any changes that may need to be made. You can pay for the report and make these changes, alternately, you can hire them to apply the changes to your site for you. Most of the time it will be subtle changes, like where your buttons are, or where your contact information is.
Consider training your staff members
Training your staff members is another method that some companies will use to grow their revenue. When you train your staff members, you will hopefully help them improve, which will then mean they perform better on the job, thus increasing the amount of money coming in. Training programs will be available in all areas of your business, whether that’s your sales team, marketing team, accounts team or customer service team. They can often be done online or face-to-face at a local training centre – online training tends to be cheaper.
Enter new markets
When you started your business, chances are you will have been operating in a limited number of markets, to ensure you weren’t spreading yourself too thin and that you were a success in those markets. As you grow, there could be opportunities for you in other markets, where you can grow your income. Take Uber as an example. They started out as a taxi company and then grew to delivering food. They only started offering takeaways once they had established themselves in the taxi market. If they had done both on launch, who knows, they may not have been as successful as they are now. Take a moment to research other markets and see if there are any profitable ones in which you can operate.
As you can see, there are many ways to bring in some more revenue to your business. We hope the above guide has given you some inspiration and actions that you can take to grow your company.
