You obviously want to get the most out of your car, right? For most people outside of their house and tuition, this is going to be the biggest purchase they ever make. But of course, cars wear and tear over the years, and of course you can’t control the weather conditions, the road conditions, or even how other drivers are. Yes, you can have a “baby on board” sticker to get people to slow down, and even a dash cam can sometimes help (for insurance purposes), but that’s about it.

Sure, car accidents are costly, sometimes this means having to get a new car. But not every car accident means it’s time to say goodbye to your ride. Yes, some crashes leave a vehicle looking like a crumpled soda can, but other times, the damage isn’t as bad as it seems. Basically the appearance is about as bad as it gets, but it still runs just fine. Overall, the trick is figuring out if your car is still roadworthy or if it’s just putting on a brave face.

While sure, by all means, dents, scratches, and even busted windows might make a car look like a total wreck, but they don’t always mean it’s headed for retirement. But overall, a little professional care can work wonders, and sometimes, a few repairs can get the car back on the road without breaking the bank.

The Frame is Still in One Piece

Just go ahead and think of the frame as the car’s skeleton, if it’s intact, there’s a good chance the car can still be saved. A little dent or a minor misalignment isn’t the end of the world, but if the car drives like a shopping cart with a busted wheel, that’s a problem. Doors that don’t close right, strange gaps between panels, or a car that pulls to one side like it has a mind of its own? Well, that’s a sign the frame took a serious hit. If everything lines up and the car still moves like it should, there’s hope yet.

The Engine and Transmission are Still Kicking

Now, you probably already know this, but a car can survive a cosmetic beating, but if the engine sounds like it’s coughing up a lung (basically what happens in scary movies) or the transmission refuses to shift properly, things get a little more complicated. If the car starts without throwing a tantrum and shifts gears without hesitation, that’s a good sign. But of course, be sure to keep an eye on leaks too.

Glass Damage Doesn’t Mean It’s Over

Okay, yes, cracked windows or a busted windshield might look bad (very bad), but they don’t automatically put a car out of commission. Auto glass damage is one of the most fixable issues after an accident. The best auto glass repair services can replace a shattered windshield or fix cracks before they spread, making the car safe to drive again. Sure, it can be a bit costly, but it’s way cheaper than getting a brand-new car.

Besides, unless every single window is gone and the car looks like it belongs in an action movie chase scene, glass repair is often a quick and relatively affordable fix.

The Wheels and Suspension are Holding Up

A car that looks fine but shakes like a washing machine on a spin cycle might have some suspension issues. But what exactly? Well, it could be something like a bent axle, busted control arms, or even misaligned wheels that can make driving feel like a battle with the road. However, if the car still rolls straight, the steering responds normally, and there’s no weird wobbling, that’s a solid indicator that the suspension is still in decent shape.
