The old saying “no pain, no gain” is outdated and was never really true. Today, athletes and beginners alike recognize that the key to optimal results comes when you train smarter and not harder. From compound exercise to proper form, here are some recommended strategies.
Optimize Your Recovery Strategy
Transitioning from casual to serious training is quite different than what you might be used to. One of the most notable side effects is muscle tension and soreness. Overlooking the recovery of your body after a workout is one of the biggest mistakes beginners make. Relaxation, hot and cold therapy, and supplements for muscle recovery are all effective methods. With proper techniques, relaxation, and nutrition, dealing with recovery becomes a breeze in no time.
Go With Compound Exercises
So, what are compound exercises? Compound exercises are techniques that use multiple muscle groups at the same time. This means you get the benefits of working out different parts of the body in one go. As a result, you will reduce the time needed to train, maximize recovery, and burn more calories in a single session. Popular compound training includes squats (quads, glutes, hamstrings, deadlifts (posterior, core, and back), and pull-ups (back and bicep strength).
Train Smarter by Listening to Your Body
Your body is the best source of information you have when working out. No app can tell you when you are overdoing it and when to stop. 150 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise per week is recommended for optimal results, but there are some things to be aware of:
- Let muscles repair and rebuild by taking rest days between intense workouts.
- If you are feeling pain or something is wrong, be aware of the body’s signals.
- No pain, no gain is a myth! Don’t power through pain, as it can lead to more injury.
To rest properly and give yourself the time you need, you can start your self-care routine for physical and mental recovery. For some, all it takes is a day of rest and a relaxing bath!
Maximize Results with Proper Form
To maximize the results of a workout, you need to focus on form. That’s the difference between an amateur and a professional. The form also helps prevent injuries and offers improved recovery times. But how can you improve form when working out? Always use weights that are comfortable and that you can control. Also, be mindful of your movements, consciously control how you engage with equipment, and consider fewer reps but stay aware of optimal form.
Create a Workout Plan and Use It
Sporadic bursts of exercise are better than nothing. But it is a poor way to go about training. A training routine with a solid plan that works for you is much more effective, physically and mentally. Include exercises that you really enjoy. A workout should never be dull or painful. It also helps to allocate specific time slots before or after work or on days you are free. You will also find it easier to begin small and build up intensity with realistic goals you can manage.
Summary
Don’t ignore your recovery strategy in order to train smarter and not harder. Pay attention to your body and what it is telling you when working out, and devise a plan that works for you.
