The Cameron Journal joins Something or Other Publishing in celebrating the one year anniversary of the publication of The Healing Connection: A Partnership for Your Health by Drew Remignanti, MD, MPH.
Dr. Remignanti has posted some great articles over the past year talking about the doctor patient relationship and has gotten some quite impressive reviews!
Dr. Remignanti describes having embarked upon his book project with the goal of promoting awareness of and a public discussion about our healthcare. He describes in detail ways in which we can both individually and societally course correct the current trajectory of our own healthcare and that of the overall US healthcare system. Drew presents a compelling science-based argument for the benefits of a sustained patient-physician relationship over the ascendant, but less effective and more expensive, “consumer-provider” model.
We hope that readers will appreciate Dr. Remignanti’s efforts and assist him in spreading awareness of his book’s informative, and at times entertaining, description of a pathway forward for us all. More information, including podcasts and other media appearances, can be found under the media tab on the book website. The ebook version with its 250+ hypertext links to primary sources is available directly from the link or through Amazon.

The ‘Bottom Line’ Should Not Eclipse the Doctor-Patient Relationship
It’s time to reassess the direction in which medicine is heading. Medpage Today, December 12, 2023
1.“Requiem for the Doctor-Patient Relationship. The corporatization of U.S. medicine has resulted in a serious diminution of the physician-patient relationship. That is the message of the new book by Drew Remignanti, MD, MPH, a retired emergency-department physician. Entitled “The Healing Connection: A Partnership For Your Health,” the book combines Remignanti’s experiences as both a doctor and a patient with wide-ranging research on what ails our healthcare system….It might seem curious that a book with such a title was written by an ED physician. After all, doctors in his specialty see patients during visits to the emergency room, usually on a one-off basis, and don’t have a chance to develop a relationship with their patients. But Remignanti clearly sees how important it is for patients to have a relationship with a primary care physician, which might prevent them from ending up in the ED.” Ken T., healthcare journalist, review on LinkedIn
2.“A refreshingly optimistic and intellectually sound approach to challenges in our healthcare system. Can a book give you disturbing details about our U.S. healthcare system AND give hope at the same time? Drew Remignanti’s book is having that effect for me.” Carl H. PhD, clinical psychologist, Amazon review
3.“I loved this book! As a primary care pediatrician I felt both vindicated as to my importance and disappointed that we doctors have allowed the destructive corporate takeover of medicine. This book is funny, insightful, and well written, You will be glad you read it.” Richard K. MD, from SOOP website
The Doctor Will Not See You Now
British Medical Journal, Medical Humanities Blog, February 20, 2024
1. “Both a Patient’s and Physician’s Guide to Modern Medicine. If you are a patient, you will learn something about how a doctor is trained to think. If you are a physician, you may be surprised to learn how little information emergency room physicians have to work with in making split-second life or death decisions. This is where the physician/patient relationship comes in. The ER physician must judge the importance and severity of self-reported symptoms while often not knowing anything about the patient as a person. Dr. Remignanti also explores the relation of the mind to healing and backs up his conclusions with numerous citations……. This is an informative, important, entertaining, and well written book that you will not regret reading.” C.W.M., Amazon review
2.“Brilliant Book. I found this book so accessible – with all the candid detail but none of the doomsday ranting; real stories of failures and success; real ideas about what we can all do (as doctors and patients) to improve our health as well as how healthcare is delivered and consumed. It’s a book I will read more than once; I’ve already given copies to friends and family. An important book on this subject!” MW, Barnes & Noble review
The compassion crisis in U.S. health care
KevinMD.com, April 25, 2024
1.“Wow, what a book! Drew talks about the frustrations patients face, which he understands fully from his own personal experiences, and he sheds light on what it is really like to be an emergency room physician, an eye-opening 360-degree view. I applaud Drew’s honesty and vulnerability in sharing, as they say, “the good, the bad and the ugly.”
I absolutely love that the central theme of the book focuses on the enduring importance of the doctor-patient relationship, which is reflected beautifully in the cover title and photograph.”
2.“Like the artist Leonardo, Remignanti draws the lines to illustrate. He takes our eye to the data, the science. He offers the facts. He illustrates. Then he adds the rich colors of his experience as a physician, the stories of hurt and healing. There he illuminates. He crosses the lines of illustration, draws our minds into a new vision and then blends his own deep spiritual insight to create his masterwork. Remignanti makes the conversation personal.” Jeffrey S. PhD, Professor emeritus, from SOOP website.
My 50-Year Career as a Patient, My 40-year career as a Doctor
Doximity Op-Med, May 9, 2024
1.“An important book by a doctor we all wished we had! Sometimes a book comes along whose message is so “right” that you wonder why it can’t always be this way. In this engaging, timely and thought-provoking book, Dr. Remignanti skillfully blends the personal with the professional and the anecdote with the research as he makes the compelling case for the critical importance of a strong patient-doctor relationship….” Ed M., Amazon review
2.“Compelling! You wouldn’t think a book about medical services would be a page turner, but I found this book to be hard to put down. The mix of honest real world experiences of a doctor in the field and the well-researched big picture view of our current healthcare systems create an interesting read, to say the least. Very thought provoking…..” Monica H., Amazon review
