Believe it or not, but company banquets are tricky. While something like a company field trip and mostly effortless, it’s not exactly the same when it comes to something as “classy” as a banquet. Now, sure, they’ve got all the potential in the world to be memorable, but most of the time they end up being a long night of lukewarm chicken, awkward speeches, and people sneaking out before dessert (but can you really blame them?).
But the thing is, it doesn’t take a Hollywood-level budget to make one feel special. Now, what about those small details? Well, they’re what make employees whisper “this is actually nice” instead of plotting their escape before the coffee gets poured. But you really need to make sure those actually work in your favour (and actually look nice).
Coat Check
Okay, so just go ahead and picture this for just a second: you walk into a fancy venue in January and the first thing you see is a mountain of coats shoved onto chairs. It’s a bit tacky, right?. Seriously, nothing says “we didn’t plan” faster than guests trying to balance their heavy jackets on the back of banquet chairs while dodging waiters.
Instead, a coat check feels like luxury, but it’s cheap to set up. Now, just think about it; guests stroll in, drop their jackets, and instantly feel lighter, literally and figuratively. It’s the kind of small touch that makes the whole night feel smoother from the jump.
There’s the Centerpieces that Don’t Block Faces
Sure, this one is weird, but just bear with this explanation for just a moment. So, the thing about giant floral centerpieces: they look impressive until you realize you can’t see the person sitting across from you. Basically, everyone will have to do the awkward lean-around-the-roses move just to chat. Ideally, just skip the skyscraper flowers and go for something clever or personal. Besides, things like candles, greenery, or a centerpiece that actually connects to your company’s personality will always beat the “wedding leftovers” vibe.
Yes, Good AV Actually Matters
Again, it’s about being high class, but this really is a detail that everyone forgets (and it will sour the rest of the experience). Seriously now, nothing kills the mood faster than a mic that keeps cutting out, or slides that refuse to appear on screen while the CEO nervously taps the clicker. This is exactly why hiring someone who actually knows audio visual for events is worth every penny. When the lighting’s on point, the speeches are crisp, and the presentations don’t look like they were made in 1998, people notice. Well, that’s simple enough, right?
Don’t Forget About the Emcee
Basically, a company banquet without an emcee is like karaoke night without someone brave enough to grab the mic. Things like awkward pauses, speeches that drag on, and an audience that checks out halfway through. You absolutely need a good emcee because they keep everything moving, plus, they add some humor, and make the night feel intentional instead of improvised. Just generally speaking, they don’t need to be a comedian, but they should be someone who knows how to keep people awake after three courses of food and one too many glasses of wine.
