Solar panels could be coming to a roof near you soon!

In this story from CNBC the CEO of SunEdison reported that Solar costs are dropping by 20-30 over a ten year period and that by 2030 it could be down another 50%. For the company it is a long term play that is paying off. He reports that there are enough rooftops in the world to create multi-terrawatts of energy. The solar revolution may finally be materializing especially as modules get better and better and even work in partly cloudy or cloudy conditions.  This is an amazing development for alternative forms of energy. Today, in an article from The Guardian Scotland reported that it is producing massive amounts of energy (enough to power Scotland) from its off-shore wind farms. Although I firmly believe that oil and hydorcarbon based fuels are in our future for at least another 100 years, this is amazing progress to powering the lives and devices that we all need using the natural occurring states of energy that are all around us. Another source of energy I like is the tide-powered generators that use the natural movement of tidal water to generate electricity. These machines would sit in the ocean and generate electricity simply by capturing energy that already exists. The future can be very sustainable and more and more building need to be putting solar panels on their roofs. The future can and should be sustainable and it should be done in a smart and responsible way and this is just the beginning. I’m very optimistic. I think it is troubling that many conservatives want to end the EPA in the US or get rid of government vehicles that are creating sustainable forms of energy. Its irresponsible and certainly not cognizant of the worlds rising energy needs as the population and technology expands in the 21st century. When electricity is available healthcare and communication improve and that could lead to positive changes all over the world. If we can match this with new battery technology and electric cars things could be changing for the better on all kinds of fronts. Air will be cleaner and fewer lives will be at risk mining coal and otherwise extracting energy. All in all, this is the kind of progress we should be encouraging.

How are you using alternative fuels? Are you getting solar panels on your home or business?
