A personal message from Cameron
I’ve had to write a couple of Christmas messages already. In my business, you end up planning ahead. For those of us in the magazine business, we live 2-3 months ahead of everything. I’ve been thinking about Christmas at some point since about September. Growing up as a musician, I suffered the same thing. Rehearsals for those splashy holiday shows start no later than October and often earlier. Often, by the time the actual holiday arrives, I’ve already moved on to the new year and I’m just over the whole thing.
I will admit this year I am similarly affected. I’ve been planning the end of the year, end of the decade, and much more since November and this year I’m already worn out of the holiday situation. I’ve also been working on the retail end of my business and that means planning well in advance including advertising and so on. This year is a little more special because I have someone special in my life and unlike me, Christmas still has plenty of magic for her. So that’s helpful for me as she can help me get out of my standard “bah, humbug” type of mode.
In the years that I wasn’t creating any media, Christmas actually got to me a little bit. It was fun to play secret Santa and white elephant at the office and actually get to do Christmas. Why did I ever come back to this? These are the things I think about this time of year. It was fun to actually get to enjoy the holiday and not immediately be thinking about the next month and also get to plan my days off and such. Indeed, the end of my year will be spent getting ready for January and pushing my new novel, Cast Iron. This is the real-life of a writer and businessman. But this year has been fun none-the-less.
I won’t keep you long but I wanted to wish everyone a very, Merry Christmas, Happy Kwanzaa, and Happy Chanukkah. I have many exciting things planned for the New Year and the New Decade.
